Description

In 2001 Tignanello captures a super-concentrated and dense expression of fruit that has been achieved with some loss of aromatic complexity and overall finesse. This is a super-ripe style with tons of dark fruit, smoke and toasted oak in a heavily extracted style that veers on excess. There is remarkable power here, but not the level of balance that is typical of the very finest vintages. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016." Antonio Galloni, In the Cellar
(WA, 01/01/2009)

Rating: 92
Drink from: 2010-2016

"Loads of blackberry, coffee and olive aromas. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, subtle yet rich finish. A fine Tignanello that shows reserve and class. Best after 2007. 27,500 cases made." Wine Spectator
(WS, 10/15/2004)

Rating: 91
Drink from: 2007

Intense, powerful, complex and brooding, the ’01 Tignanello is a decidedly voluptuous take on this Antinori Super Tuscan. Juicy dark fruit dances with baking spices, sun-warmed earth, smoky minerals and potpourri in this sexy Tignanello vintage. Tignanello derives from a single 140-acre south-western facing plot of limestone-rich soils. Ever since Tignanello's inaugural vintage in 1971, Antinori has restricted its production of Tignanello to only the best vintages, and the estate’s vinification techniques have included malolactic fermentation, aging in barrique for one year, followed by an additional year of aging in bottle. Rich, opulent, and silky, the ’01 Tignanello builds to a lingering crescendo of polished, fine-grained tannins.
