Description

San Polino is a small family-run vineyard in Montalcino, producing biodynamic Brunello. There are only 2.5 hectares of Sangiovese vines that make up the Brunello (only 310 cases of the Helichrysum are produced) and the family conducts all labour in the vineyards by hand,so special attention can be made to every single bunch of grapes. The proprietor Luigi Fabbro's involvement in a biodiversity-mapping project in the Brazilian Amazon has taught him many skills that he has transferred to the vineyard.
He has produced a stunning "Helichrysum" in the outstanding 2010 Brunello di Montalcino vintage to which James Suckling has awarded the maximum points.Because of the great vintage and limited production (no longer available in this country),this wine should be a very good investment for laying down, but in a couple of years time should also be superb drinking:-

"Unique aromas of flowers such as violets, stones, and roses as well as dark fruits.Incredibly vivid.Full-bodied,yet subtle and refined.Amazing beauty.Better in 2017 but so gorgeous now.Incredible complexity and character. From biodynamically grown grapes.Luigi Fabbro and his wife Katia are incredible grape growers for Brunello and only have 2.5 hectares".
(100 Points).

James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com January 2015).

"Wine lovers are rejoicing in the incredibly high quality of the vintage, and rightly so.The 2010 vintage is a new benchmark for Tuscany's icon wine, producing reds with incredible structure, and energy.I find the depth of fruit, flavor and savory, almost mineral undertone of the wines spellbinding".

James Suckling. (2010 Brunello di Montalcino Tasting Report).

"2010 is the best vintage I have experienced in my winemaking career, and I started making wine in the early 1980s".

Giacomo Neri. (Proprietor of Casanova di Neri, one of the most respected wineries producing Brunello di Montalcino).

The 2010 Helichrysum is no longer available from retailers in the UK.
