Description

An excellent bottle of Fonseca '63, THE great port vintage.

Bottled for The Army & Navy Stores, London SW1.

A very good 'in neck' level - see photo.
Capsule (lead/metal foil) is undamaged.
No obvious signs of seepage.

"The 1963, one of the great modern-day classics of vintage port, is an incredibly aromatic, sublime, majestic port that simply defines Fonseca's style perfectly." Robert Parker 1989.

Tasting notes from FONSECA

10.45 Rich full ruby centre, tawny highlights. A wine in total harmony on the bouquet. The nose overflows with aromas of cured leather, warm marmalade, cinnamon, scented rosewood. Pungent, fat, rounded; oodles of volume on the nose. Then wonderful peardrop lift on the finish.

12.35 Very harmonious, complete palate. Wonderfully complex. Silky texture; gloriously smooth and almost voluptuous in its volume. Classic Fonseca opulence and fatness of fruit. Really good example of 1963. Ageing very well and still great life to it. Liquorice, touch of prune, slightly meaty, hint of tea and cigar box that stays well on the finish.
