Description

1970 is one of the finest post war Port vintages; a classic vintage that was declared by all the major port houses. 1970 Ports have great balance, good structure, with great ageing potential.

Bottled in 1972 by Berry Bros & Rudd, London.

Level - bottom of neck
Label - see photo
Capsule (Berry Bros) embossed and showing no signs of seepage.

Robert Parkert wrote of this port :
"This house tends to produce quite full-bodied, rich, alcoholic, spirited vintage ports that never have a great deal of complexity or finesse but offer meaty, chocolaty, spicy, full-bodied, alcoholic flavors at the expense of elegance. The 1970 is big and powerful and just now reaching maturity".

More recently, the Wine Doctor reports :
"Cockburn's Vintage Port 1970: Firm, mature appearance. Mature, meaty, earthy hue. Lovely texture. Still has firm acidity. Good mature flavours. Lots of structure still. Good length. Not the finest 1970 but pleasantly mature". 16.5/20 (November 2004)

Slightly dusky ruby red but fresh and bright looking. Nose is candied raisin....macaroons, vanilla pods, segues into fresher purple plum ripe fruit. Lovely. 1/16/2012 - Barry Notes wrote: 95 Points

Clear w/some sediment. Wow, this is great port. Usual big sweeness, very smooth, classic taste but not too nutty, absolutely nothing off. A very special treat.
