Description

Oporto Bottled.

Neal Martin 92 Drink 2010 - 2020
Tasted at John E. Fells portfolio tasting. A Porto bottling this, but with a definite Bordeaux-like nose! Well defined, foursquare at first, opening up nicely with maraschino cherries, cloves, burnt wood/embers and bergamot, gaining intensity all the time in the glass. The palate is very harmonious and elegant (not dissimilar in texture to a ’63 opened a couple of months earlier.) Fleshy, harmonious, seductive on the palate with allspice, nutmeg and ginger sprinkled over the viscous finish and finally, freshly rolled tobacco on the aftertaste. Good length, powerful like many of the 1970 ports continue to be. Superb. Drink now-2020+ Tasted September 2009.

From the Symington/Graham's website:
This was the first Vintage Port produced as the Symingtons purchased the firm from the Graham’s brothers in 1970. James Symington (Rupert’s father) actually made this very first vintage under the new ownership. I’ve always been a huge fan of this particular Graham’s and it is up there with other exalted Ports like Nacional, Fonseca & Taylor which is rarified territory in this brilliant vintage. This particular bottle was exemplary, a really fine showing; with an amazingly youthful appearance and a hedonistic, silky mouthfeel of great length. Score: 96+/100

Have little or no experience with port, but I really enjoyed this a lot. Sweet, but very nuanced and fine. Lots of complexity and intrigue. I could get used to drinking this often.

1/3/2014 - EndreS Likes this wine:
Seems very primary still. Intense and sweet with dark fruits and chocolate/coffee. Rich and full of tannins in the finish. So much here, excellent wine.

Coffee, chocolate, dark berries, nuts, quite youthful, primary fruit still there.

Popped, decanted and poured. Lots of fig and date with rich dried cherry. Very long, balanced and elegant. Seemed much better than another bottle from a few months ago.

Sounds OK, dunnit?
