Description

Chris Pollington, Berrys' Fine Wine Team
From the ‘Cinderella’ vintage for Vintage Ports, this mature gem is perfect for drinking now. 1980 is ignored by many as it wasn’t a good vintage for anything else in Europe, but it was a very good Port vintage. Warre is my favourite Port shipper and there is plenty of the rich, fruitcake style to this wine that I like so much. The fig-like, dark fruit, coupled with hints of spice, is balanced by fresh acidity and measured, yet softening, tannin. One for taking the chill off the winter months.

Cork was so loose it slipped into the bottle when I tried to insert the cork screw. The wine however was excellent. Deep ruby colour not showing any bricking, long slow legs. Powerful nose of menthol, leather, cigar box. Black cherry, full body, perfect balance with a long finish. Fantastic port, drinking perfectly, what a treat. Likely could age for another 10 plus years but do not know if it would gain anything.
