Description

The Wehlener Sonnenuhr Ausleses of Joh. Jos. Prüm are world famous for being among the greatest expressions of Mosel Riesling available. They are, however, forbiddingly backward when young and in need of serious bottle age. Helpfully then these have shaken off their teenage angst and are revelling in their adult prime.

"Wow, this is a stunning wine! It is surprisingly dark golden in color but what complexity on the palate. It offers a great complex note of pineapple, mango, honey and a delicate touch of marzipan. This is a great rich Auslese which cruises well above normal Auslese level. It has surprisingly well integrated acidity (but it remains nice and tickly) but this is such a gorgeous wine. Now-2018"

About the 1983 vintage in the Mosel: A glorious late autumn produced wines with good levels of sugar without excessive botrytis. Spatlese and Auslese have good precise fruit and are now marked by their tertiary flavours.

About pricing: These are currently unavailable for sale anywhere else in the UK. Cheapest worldwide price I can find is £62.91 at Schaefer's in Chicago
