Description

1994 Vintage in California:-

"Many Cabernet Sauvignon,Zinfandel and Syrah producers are calling this the vintage of the century. This was an exceptional year, especially in Napa,Sonoma and Mendocino. My early tastings confirmed a high promise, especially for the north coast Cabernets".

Robert Parker's Wine Buyers Guide (Fourth Edition).

"As is the practice at this winery, they hold back 50 or so cases of their finest vintages for release after a decade. The current release of their library selection is the 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon, a magnificent effort that, for me, is one of Togni’s six or seven finest wines. Its deep plum/purple color reveals only a touch of lightening at the edge. A glorious perfume offers up aromas of plums, figs, creme de cassis, smoke, hickory spice, and high quality cigar tobacco. In a blind tasting, this California Cabernet could easily be mistaken for a great Pauillac given its structure, density, richness, and perfume. This 1994 is just beginning to move into its adolescence. Even though it has 20-25 years of life remaining, it is approachable. It is a monumental Cabernet Sauvignon from one of the valley’s legacy producers".
(97 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. February 2005).

"Today, at twenty years of age, the 1994 is firing on all cylinders, with breathtaking complexity and nuance to burn. The 1994 is a classic Togni Cabernet laced with savory/spiced overtones, graphite and spices, all supported by firm yet nicely balanced tannins. I imagine the 1994 will drink well for another decade or so, although I don't expect to see too much improvement from here.
(96 Points).

Antonio Galloni. (Vinous. December 2014).

"The 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon gets stronger and more compelling each time I taste it.This opaque blue/purple coloured wine offers up fragrant smoky distinctive cassis, wild berry, licorice and coffee scented nose, nicely dosed with high quality new oak. There is remarkable richness & intensity,a sweet mid palate of ripe fruit, round tannins and a blockbuster finish that lasts for nearly 40 seconds. Are Togni's great vintages the California equivalent of the most exotic, concentrated and ripest vintages of the renowned Pauillac,Mouton Rothschild? Philip Togni,a legendary Californian wine maker must be the least promotion conscious member of the profession.....but then with wines such as these, why not let them do the talking for you? Much of Togni's wine is sold via a private mailing list".

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate).
