Description

“The White 1995 is remarkable, pale yellow but with a Burgundian bouquet and the fi nish of a good old-fashioned white Graves”
STEVEN SPURRIER – MUSING ON MUSAR

CellarTracker.com community tasting notes average score of 92 points.

Reminiscent of a dry Sauternes, this golden white is made from indigenous Lebanese varieties Obaideh and Merwah, reputedly the antecedents of Chardonnay and Semillon, dating back millennia. Musar’s vineyards were planted between 1920 and 1947, at around 1300m above sea level in the foothills of the Anti-Lebanon mountains near Ain Arab on stony, chalky soils, and on the seaward side of Mount Lebanon in Baqaâta , on calcareous gravels. High and pure, the vines are ungrafted. Six years in the making, the wines are fermented and aged for 9 months in French (Nevers) oak barrels, then blended and bottled at the end of their first year. Decanting is beneficial; serve ‘cellar cool’ at around 15°C, with foie gras, rich seafood, duck dishes, canapés, pâtés, desserts or fresh fruit. Cellared in a steady environment, the wines will keep for decades, deepening in colour and complexity.
