These wines were produced during the period when Fox Creek was at the height of its fame,when Sparky and Sarah Marquis had built up the winery to a cult status.Since they left in 1998 to start their own winery at Mollydooker,it is debatable whether the quality levels of the wines at Fox Creek have ever since matched their high standards.At the time Robert Parker described their wines in glowing terms:-

"One of the superstars of Australia,Fox Creek produces wines that almost go off the charts in terms of extract and richness.The 1996 Shiraz Reserve (only the third vintage of this wine) is made from 14-year-old vines that average 3 tons of fruit per acre.I am pleased to report that 2,000 cases were produced.Typical of many of Australia's great reds,it boasts an opaque purple color,followed by spectacular aromatics (cassis,pepper,blackberry jam,and tar) and viscous,chewy-textured,full-bodied,highly endowed flavors that coat the palate with glycerin,extract,and alcohol (14.5%).This superb,extremely concentrated,blockbuster Shiraz should drink well for 15-20 years".
