Description

The lot consists of two bottles of Brunello di Montalcino from the outstanding 1997 vintage:

One bottle of 1997 Cantina di Montalcino Brunello di Montalcino.
One bottle of 1997 Az.Agr.Il Patrizio Brunello di Montalcino.

"A fundamental rule, with respect to Tuscan wines is to buy all the 1997s and 1999s that you can afford. Both are extraordinary vintages of ripeness and richness and should surpass the finest wines produced in such great years as 1990 and 1985.1997 was a spectacular vintage of exceptionally high quality, especially for Brunello di Montalcino and central Tuscany".

Robert Parker. (Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide. Sixth Edition).

Tasting notes on the above Brunellos appear to be very limited, but there are a couple of tasting notes on the 1997 Cantina di Montalcino:-

"This wine was double-decanted,allowing two hours in decanter prior to funneling back into the cleaned bottle. The robe is deep red/garnet and the nose (ultimately after an additional hour in opened bottle) shows moderately intense plum, coriander and earth aromas.Medium-bodied on the palate, with light residual tannins and well-integrated alcohol (which is listed at 13%).The flavors mirror the nose and the middle palate is solid.Medium-to-long,smooth finish. This wine is drinking well at this point but it does require extended aeration. It may have merited a higher score had it been allowed more time to develop in decanter".
(90 Points).

CellarTracker. (29/5/2011).

"Decanted for 6 hours and it still continued to evolve for another day.Notes from Day 2: Big bouquet of pomegranate, cranberry, and cinnamon candy - like Red Hots.Smooth presence in the mouth, alcohol not noticeable, but the fluid is still quite sticky to the glass..More plum, prune, and cherry flavor comes in and still has the cinnamon candy underneath.Medium tannin/acid,big body.Finish gives several interesting notes that linger on top of some leather and moss".
(92 Points).

CellarTracker. (10/7/2007).
