The promising 1999 Hermitage La Chapelle exhibits an impressive purple color as well as a dense, sweet bouquet of minerals, cassis, licorice, and spice box. Full-bodied and concentrated, it is not a blockbuster, but it is beautifully knit, with layered cassis flavors. Although soft at present, there are abundant quantities of underlying tannin.
