Although founder and former winemaker, Dave Powell is no longer associated with this label, Torbreck is still a force to be reckoned with; firmly entrenched in the upper echelons of Barossa Valley’s wine elite.

Taking its name from a forest in Inverness, Scotland, most of Torbreck’s production is dedicated to red wines using traditional Rhone varieties from estate grown fruit as well as those sourced from contract growers where all aspects of vineyard activities are under their control.

95 Points - Robert Parker

The 2000 The Factor (1,000 cases) has benefited from the fact that Powell decided not to produce a Run Rig in 2000. It is a compelling wine of great richness, multiple dimensions, and glorious levels of blackberry liqueur-like fruit intermixed with creme de cassis, melted licorice, espresso, and leather. Sweet, expansive, and opulent, it is a lusty, hedonistic, mouth-staining Shiraz.

98 Points - Robert Parker

The brilliant 2004 Les Amis (100% Grenache aged 18 months in new oak) is fashioned from a vineyard planted in 1903. While it does not have quite the size and power of the 2002 Les Amis, it is still a Grenache on steroids. With wonderful purity, more elegance than the 2002 and remarkably well-integrated oak.

Both at their peak now and will make fantastic wines for Xmas.
