Description

The Mount Veeder vineyards provide the longest growing season for grapes and the lowest yields in the Napa Valley. The extremely steep vineyard slopes above the fog, render shallow topsoil and minimal water retention, resulting in tiny berries, with intense flavour concentration. The grapes also benefit from the cooling influence of the San Pablo Bay breezes.

"The Hess Collection Mountain Cuvee is a Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blend. The wine is both powerful and elegant. The lifted aroma profile of floral notes, red cherry, vanilla, spice and cedar is followed by a second layer of black licorice, wild berry, and pepper. These aromas follow through in the flavors of bright red fruit, spice, and a fleshy round palate integrated with French oak and a satin finish.
Blend: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon,16% Syrah,14% Merlot,6% Malbec,4% Cabernet Franc".

The Hess Collection Winemaker's Notes.

"Dark, aromatic, and dry.Very tannic and lively, even after 9 years.Berries, chocolate, cassis, and black tea. This is a really nice blend, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon. You can almost taste the volcanic soils (not that I know what a volcano tastes like).Tastes like the lower end of very high end wines".
