Description

A typically powerful and persuasive wine from Daniel Brunier; the wine is like the man, deeply passionate and extremely eloquent. The hot microclimate of Le Crau yields wines which are often reserved in youth, and this is no exception. Behind the demure exterior is a savoury feast that will take years to yield its full potential.

Winemaker's Notes

Number 20 on Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2007!

The Vieux Télégraphe Rouge invariably has a beautiful colour, an earthy nose, but one of freshness, lively and promising. One finds freshness in the mouth, nervy and lightly mentholated. At the same time, it is suave and rich on the finish. The tannins are supple and ripe with no dryness. The end of the tasting is very clean and woody, rich with a light liquorice taste.

Food Pairing: With its structure and complexity this red wine will go well with game, lamb, or risotto with wild mushrooms cooked in a red wine sauce.

"Pure and silky, with raspberry, cocoa, truffle and mineral notes that glide along the fresh acidity. The long, silky finish lets the fruit and minerality hang nicely, with garrigue in the background. Should blossom in the cellar. Best from 2008 through 2025."
Wine Spectator
94 Points

With the final blend of Vieux Télégraphe confirmed as 65% old vine Grenache, with Mourvèdre, Syrah and a blend of other Châteauneuf-du-Pape varieties incorporated, the brilliance of this great wine is now evident. While the nose hints at fruit, spice and game, the palate exhibits classic notes of liquorices and leather, and a drive that is not witnessed every year. There is tremendous length, a rolling, silky sensation shows great persistence. Above all it is the texture which singles this wine out, and completely masks its weight. Supple and yet strong, with silky, fine tannins, a sublime wine.
