Description

Matthew Jukes in his Best Australian Wines 2009 called this "A perfect wine...in my opinion the greatest Stonewell ever. I cannot stress to you just how incredible this wine is. So beg, borrow or steal to get an allocation."

Wine Spectator: "Lithe in texture, with a bit of grip from the firm tannins around a pulsating core of eucalyptus-accented black cherry and dark plum flavours. The finish lingers effortlessly and begs for another sip."

Robert Parker: "The 2004 Stonewell Shiraz, sourced from several Barossa districts, spent 18 months in predominantly French oak hogsheads. Opaque purple-coloured, it delivers an enticing bouquet of pain grillé, pencil lead, spice box, smoked meat and blueberry.

"It has a firm entry onto the palate followed by layers of sweet, savoury fruit. Balanced, with excellent depth and concentration, this lengthy, ripe effort will evolve for 4-6 years and offer prime drinking for a decade."

This is Australia's flagship grape, from one of the flagship producers of the Barossa Valley. And Stonewell Shiraz is undoubtedly the flagship wine in the Peter Lehmann fleet. If the reviews of this wine after its release this year don't say enough already, then take confidence from the fact this wine is named after the vineyards that were thought to yield the finest Shiraz of all in the Barossa Valley, and that 2004 is a vintage renowned for producing varietal classics in Australia - wines that express their grapes and their region to their utmost best.
