94 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
'The 2005 Grenache Kangarilla Vineyard is the most overtly fruity and flamboyant of the Grenache offerings. It offers up gobs of black raspberry and black cherry aromas and flavors in its layered, full-bodied personality. There are well concealed tannins which will allow it to have an extended drinking window of 10-15 years although it can be enjoyed now.'

'Dark purple. Seductive red and dark berry liqueur aromas are complicated by exotic incense, floral oil and spices; has the pungency of a head shop. Lush and creamy, with deep raspberry and mulberry flavors that reach every square inch of the palate. With its molten tannins, there are no rough edges to distract from the sweet berry fruit. I'm sure that this will age but I'd have no trouble drinking it now, and loving it.'


This wine forms part of Clarendon Hills’ ‘Premier Cru’ classification.

The most densely structured of the Grenache’s thus far. Recessed and slow to emerge from its shell – The Kangarilla vineyard offers majesty in both extension and girth. The depth of savoury, but fresh fruit within the extract remains with this vineyard for well over 15 years. Cleanliness and character define this site. More backward than the Blewitt Springs or Onkaparinga – it is almost the slowest maturing wine in the varietal domain.

Planted in 1942, this is the only Clarendon Hills grenache patch that has been trellised. The vines are planted in hard clay, and the resulting Kangarilla Grenache is considered a ‘Premier Cru’.
