Description

Allen Meadows Burghound 92

2007 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux (France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru) Burghound, 10/1/2009, October 2009, Allen Meadows (web) 92 This is clearly the best of these left bank 1ers with its refined and ultra elegant nose that features a classic mix of citrus, floral, iodine and tidal pool notes trimmed in enough wood to notice it though not enough to dominate the nose. The powerful, concentrated and very firm medium plus weight flavors deliver a bone dry and palate etching finish of superb length. This is a classy effort that is almost painfully intense and it's clear that the older vines add another dimension. Impressive. (drink starting 2013)

John Gilman View from the Cellar 94+

2007 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux (France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru) View From the Cellar, 1/1/2009, Jan/Feb 2009, John Gilman 94+ The 2007 Butteaux will offer up a very serious rival to the superb 2006 fashioned here. The bouquet is deep, primary and quite stunning, as it offers up notes of apple, lemon oil, brilliantly complex minerality, spring flowers and several other soil tones that reflect both flint and wet stones. The ’07 is dramatically more soil-driven than its ’06 counterpart. On the palate this is a superb wine, as it is full-bodied and very crystalline in its expression of fruit, with kaleidoscopic minerality, brilliant purity, snappy acids, laser-like focus and brilliant length and grip on the still quite primary finish. It is hard to say that any wines are not respected enough in the Raveneau cellars, but the two premier crus that I feel are not really sufficiently recognized for their magical quality here year in and year out are the Butteaux and the Chapelot. The 2007 Butteaux is a stunning bottle in the making. (drink 2012-2040)
