Description

A wine fit for a Queen!
According to Domaine Huet,without their knowledge at the time,this 2008 Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux Vouvray was served in France to the Queen and President Hollande of France (probably with the foie gras course) at the 70th Anniversary celebrations of the Normandy D Day landings in June 2014.
The wines of Domaine Huet,generally considered the best wine producer in Vouvray,are renowned for their keeping qualities.Most of their wines improve with age and can be cellared for many decades.


At a recent dinner party,I paired this wine with foie gras and fresh black truffles and it was a perfect match and a great success with the guests.Though sweet,the Haut-Lieu Moelleux was made fresh and invigorating by the fine acidity,and a certain leanness (not thick,like a Sauternes) helped to enhance the match of wine to food.President Hollande's culinary consultants certainly got this one right!

"53.1 g/l residuary sugar,12% alcohol.Wonderful nose:sweet,honeyed and nutty with some minerals as well as ripe apple and pear fruit.The palate has lovely concentration with sweet citrus and pear fruit,straw and mineral complexity and great acidity.Long finish".

"Apples and pastry on the nose.In the mouth,it shows apple blossom with a kiss of honey to its white orchard fruits.And the great thing about Loire sweeties - it's beautifully off-set by mouthcleansing acidity,giving a lovely purity,balance,delicacy,and freshness.Subtle,steely notes to the finish".
