Description

TWO MAGNUMS.
The 2009 vintage needs no more praise, simply one of the "best ever".

The Chateau Lamothe-Cissac 2009 is a lovely deep garnet colour with touches of ruby. The nose is a powerful blend of cassis, plum and blackberry with lovely softer tones of vanilla, tobacco, pepper and a lingering earthiness.
The palate is equally powerful, with rich black fruits, black cherry and cassis integrating with smooth and elegant tannins and a green note adding structure. The wine lingers on the palate well with a touch of spice and warmth to the finish.

The 33 hectare vineyard is located partly on the commune of CISSAC adjacent to Pauillac and partly on the plateau of VERTHEUIL contiguous with Saint-Estèphe. The gravelly subsoil is covered with a clayey limestone topsoil in some areas and a clayey gravel topsoil in other areas.
Planted with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot.

After careful harvest, the grapes are totally de-stemmed before pressing and temperature controlled fermentation. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels before bottling.

In Roman times, the terroir around the estate was already famous for producing quality wines. Remnants of a Roman villa have been discovered close to the Château. In 1964, Gabriel Fabre purchased the property. The whole vineyard had to be replanted and the winery completely rebuilt. Vincent Fabre, his son, took over the management of the estate in 1991.
