About the wine:
Domaine du Monteillet, run by Stéphane Montez, is one of the reference family estates of Côte-Rôtie, known for producing powerful, structured Syrah that age exceptionally well. The domaine farms steep, terraced vineyards and works with low yields and traditional élevage, prioritising concentration, balance and longevity.

“Fortis” is the estate’s flagship cuvée, produced only in strong vintages from old-vine parcels on steep slopes. It represents the most concentrated and ageworthy expression of Montez’s Côte-Rôtie, built for long development in bottle.

The 2010 vintage is regarded as one of the great modern Rhône years, combining ripeness with freshness and structure. At this stage, the wine should be moving from primary fruit toward secondary complexity. Expected characteristics include black olive, cassis, blackberry, smoked meat, cracked pepper and iron-rich minerality, supported by firm but polished tannins and a long, savoury finish.

Decanting is recommended if opened now, though further ageing will be rewarded.
