Description

This offer is for a half-case of assorted clarets for everyday drinking from the Wine Society's 2014 and 2015 Bordeaux en primeur offers. Note £12 deivery charge. Contains:

1 bot Castillon Madame de Ch de Pitray 2014
Drinking 2019–2029. There was little August rain in Castillon, helping to maintain a healthy crop through to the end of October. This was the latest ever harvest at Pitray. With 35% unoaked cabernet franc and the balance oak-matured merlot, this has lovely purity of fruit and fine tannins. One of the best-value wines of the vintage.
1 bot Côtes de Bourg Nectar Ch de la Grave 2014
Drinking 2019–2026. Delicious and well-proportioned Bourg from Valérie and Philippe Bassereau, with around 95% merlot, most of which comes from vines that are 40 years old or more, adding extra density. Large oak foudres have replaced new oak, bringing a greater sense of place to the wine. A great buy.
1 bot Haut-Médoc Ch Cissac 2014
Drinking 2020–2030. The very dry September resulted in a wine of deep colour and concentrated, spicy cabernet sauvignon fruit. The wine will benefit from time in bottle to reach its full potential. Well-priced, classically styled claret.
1 bot Castillon Madame de Ch de Pitray 2015
Drinking 2020–2030. Fruit from Pitray’s oldest vines, some over 80 years of age, finds its way into the châateau’s flagship wine, this year a blend of 60% merlot, 30% cabernet franc and 10% malbec. Perfumed and supple with succulent black-fruit character and velvety tannins. Quite possibly the best ‘Madame’ yet.
1 bot Moulis Ch Dutruch-Grand-Poujeaux 2015
Drinking 2021–2031. Jean-Baptise Cordonnier, not a man given to hyperbole, describes his 2015 as having the tannins of 2009 with the balance of 2010, and his best vintage ever (his first was 1993). A structured but appetising blend of very healthy cabernet sauvignon (58%) with 36% merlot and the balance petit verdot and cabernet franc.
1 bot St-Émilion Ch de Fonbel 2015
Drinking 2020–2028. Owned by the Vauthier family of Ausone fame, de Fonbel is a consistently high achiever at a somewhat more approachable price. Lush fruit texture overlaid with creamy, ripe tannins ensure a harmonious and complete merlotdominant wine.
