Description

This auction is for 1 magnum from this great producer.

"Ethereal stuff that has everything, the 2003 Domaine de la Mordoree Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de la Reine des Bois has classically-styled (especially when compared to the Plume du Peintre) aromas and flavors of black and red fruits, truffle, garrigue, saddle leather and pan drippings. Full-bodied and gorgeously concentrated on the palate, it remains perfectly balanced and fresh, with no apparent weight or heaviness, superb purity and a monster finish. Giving the ’01 a run for its money, it handedly surpassed the Plume du Peintre on this occasion. It’s a breathtaking drink now, yet still youthful and lively and should evolved gracefully for another decade or more."

Here are some Cellartracker notes from the past year:

95 Points

Lots of Grenache, Syrah and more with friends (Downtown Cleveland): Just a slight bit of stink on the nose. Also cherries, black cherries, spice, and leather. Delicious if still young on the palate. Starting to show some layering. Black cherries, earthy, some spice. A big wine. Not showing heat or alcohol.

96 Points

This was a great wine. Double decanted 2.5hrs, then cooled down, which is perfect at the moment. Initial tannin and alcohol integrated perfectly. From pure licorice this becomes a wonderful savory meat, prune and soy with a long and rich cardamon finish. Very broad in the mouth - real intensity. I'm not a fan of 2003s, but this was very well balanced with a nice level of acidity, and moorish... Finished a bottle with the wife in less than an hour!

(magnum) Drinking well right now, seems to have more life than the bottle size. Still very fruity.

95 Points

This was potent ! Tannins still firm upon opening softened after 2 hours decant. Fig, prune, candied fruit, sundried tomatoes, chocolate. Endless finish. Excellent.

97 Points

Very powerful nose of dark fruit, incense, cèpes de Bordeaux, mine de crayon, hint of vanilla... taste of super powerful dark cherries, loads of ripe tannins, very long and silky taste, finish of about 30 seconds, beautiful wine, one of the best Mordorées!!

99 Points

WOW- give me a break! This shot into the really well crafted CdP, displaying its whole gorgeousness to my face with layers of berries and smash Maras des bois underlined by some white pepper. The final is creamy and velvety, lasting a good 50+ seconds… An excellent beauty, it leaves a gorgeous tannic profile. The fifth nose is delectably awesome, mostly made of cinnamon.
