Palliser Estate, Pinot Gris, 2013 (CT 87pts; 3 reviews below)
Floral and slightly herbal on the nose, rich tropical fruit notes as well. Intense and rich on the palate, spicy and blunt but a bit fresher than the Chardonnay.
Very pale straw. Ripe pear, peach, lychee and pineapple. Rich and inviting, a soft mouthfeel is balanced nicely by fresh acidity, leading to a dry and reasonably lengthy finish. A classic, rich NZ pinot gris, which while pleasant to drink, is far from exciting. However, the enjoyment of this wine improved considerably with a Penang fish curry - the acidity cutting through the spice brilliantly.
Pear drops on the nose, a little bubblegum. Slightly off dry but with quite nice acidity. Stone fruit on the palate, nice finish

Riesling, Pegasus Bay, 2009 (ERP 90+pts)
The 2009 Riesling has pronounced notes of citrus zest and chalk dust with an undercurrent of fresh rosemary, coriander seed and ginger. Light bodied with high acidity, the palate is nicely balanced by it’s sugar rendering a medium-sweet style with a long spicy finish.
