I have for auction: Angelo Gaja, Sori’ SanLorenzo, 2008; ONE Bottle.

From, arguably, one of the very best producers in Italy comes this offering, by the legendary Mr Angelo Gaja. His wines are iconic, and this bottle should be just around its ageing "sweet spot", but with perhaps a decade or more of ageing potential to boot.

This wine heralds from the Piemonte (Piedmont) region, in the very north west of Italy. It is a superb example of Barbaresco wine, and its varietal is the Nebbiolo grape, with a touch of Barbera.

Stephen Tanzer at International Wine Cellar writes: “…already displaying outstanding energy and precision to its intense dark fruit and floral flavours. The firm, late-arriving tannins are perfectly supported by strong dark fruits on the back end. This wonderfully juicy wine boasts a near-perfect balance for extended ageing. A knockout in the making. 96(+)”

Robert Parker: “Gaja’s 2008 Sori San Lorenzo is impeccable from start to finish. The 2008 is a round, seamless San Lorenzo with seemingly no hard edges and terrific overall balance. The signature aromas and flavors are there, as is the wine’s typical gravitas…The wine possesses striking inner perfume and fabulous overall balance… An explosive, juicy finish rounds things out in style.” Robert Parker gave this wine a score of 95 points.

A super addition to any good collection, or something special to enjoy over the Christmas period, this should not be passed up!
