Description

Stored at home in basement to avoid any fluctuations in temperature.

For the first time in our country, Clos Mogador, one of the prestigious wines made by René Barbier in the D.O.Ca. Priorat, was awarded the prestigious qualification of «Vi de Finca».

“Vi de Finca” is an additional qualification to the D.O.Ca. Priorat certification, which already recognizes this wine. Clos Mogador was the first wine to receive this prestigious qualification in the whole of Spain. It certifies that all grapes used to make this wine over at least the last five years have been sourced from the Clos Mogador single vineyard (five years which can be documented and traced), and at the same time is awarded to a wine which has received international acclaim over at least the last ten years.

Described by Andreas Larsson, World Sommelier, 2007:
"What colour! It reveals such youth and intensity, full of energy but also poise. The robe changes from an inky blue to a brilliant purple. Despite its depth and density, it’s marked by a vivacious clarity and limpidity – so young, so vibrant, and viscous with slow flowing legs...
Terroir is what first comes to mind as the glass emanates alluring aromas. From stones reminiscent of sun-drenched slate to unctuous sun-ripe plums and dark cherries and spicy hints of liquorice and moist tobacco. This is all due to the special Priorat terroir, yet it is unique for its vintage. Full of youth and packed with luscious fruit, its complexity will grow as time goes by...
In terms of taste, I am seduced by the wine’s richness and structure which is a fine balance between sweet stone fruits such as black plums and bitter cherries and freshness with is underlined by mineral flavours, which are in turn complemented by spicy oak, vanilla and black pepper. This young and muscular wine is immensely concentrated with a backbone of firm, chewy tannins. It is still on the austere side, yet it gives us an indication, a mere glance, of its promising future.
As we sit back and enjoy the wine’s long aftertaste, we are once more intrigued by the plethora of dark fruit and spice emerging from the palate. A truly fine example, which is young and very energetic.
Allured by the perfume, beguiled by its taste, this is a fascinating manifestation of a special terroir, a special vintage and of course of a special winemaker."
