John Gilman View from the Cellar 92

N.V. Camille Savès Champagne Brut Carte d'Or Grand Cru (France, Champagne, Bouzy, Champagne) View From the Cellar, 7/1/2010, Jul/Aug 2010, John Gilman 92 The Carte d’Or bottling from Camille Savés is one of my very favorite non-vintage Brut cuvées on the market, though it is not carried here in the US, so I am “forced” to drink it whenever I am in Europe- which “somehow” I manage to do with some frequency! The current release of the Carte d’Or is comprised of seventy-five percent pinot noir and twenty-five percent chardonnay and it is excellent. The bouquet is a complex and classy nose of apple, orange zest, warm biscuits, fresh almonds and a wonderfully complex base of soil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, crisp and complex, with great focus, very refined mousse, crisp acids and a very long, still fairly youthful finish. I have a few bottles of this in the cellar that I hauled back from France several years ago and they are drinking great, so I would certainly encourage folks buying the new release to not hesitate to cellar this wine and let it really blossom with a bit more bottle age. As always, a very, very classy bottle of Brut NV. (drink 2010-2025)

NV Camille Saves Brut Grand Cru Carte d'Or A Champagne Blend Dry White Sparkling wine from Bouzy, Champagne, France Source Reviewer Rating Maturity Current (Release) Cost Wine Advocate # 186 Dec 2009 Antonio Galloni 93 Drink: 2009 - 2013 The NV Brut Grand Cru Carte d'Or is a fat, ripe wine bursting with the warmth and generosity of Bouzy. Medium to full in body, the Brut Grand Cru Carte d'Or impresses for its expansive texture and sheer character. The Brut Grand Cru Carte d'Or is 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, vintages 2005 (60%) and 2004 (40%) from southeast facing vineyards in Bouzy with an average age of 25 years. Dosage was 10 grams per liter. Disgorged: March, 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2013. This is one of the most impressive lineups I can remember tasting from Saves, a small family-run property located in Bouzy, in the heart of Pinot Noir country. The wines are fermented in steel and do not undergo malolactic fermentation. The more important bottlings spend 3-4 years on the lees in bottle. Dosage ranges from 10-12 grams, which is towards the high end within the Brut designation.
