Description

A chance to sample a pair of rare Canadian Pinot Noir from Niagara, Ontario (sub-regions Twenty Mile Bench and Niagara Peninsula). Not generally available outside of Canada, these were bottles were originally imported for the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC).

2019 Flat Rock Cellars Gravity Pinot Noir, Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara, Ontario

This pours pale ruby garnet portending the lighter ambiance overall including modest 12.5% alcohol. This adds to the elegant, fine boned feel with easy tannin and excellent fruit depth. The nose is expresses classic sour red cherry jam, finely tuned barrel toast, an earthy/mossy note and a touch of acetone. It all fits well together on the palate ad keeps focused, with some sour-edged volatile underlay. The length is excellent. (David Lawrason)

Rich, though not overripe, this is chock-full of black raspberry and framed by soft tannins and sweet oak. A gravelly mineral note on the finish adds intrigue. Smart value for money for new world Pinot fans, and ready to drink.
