Description

The challenge of the Cantina di Santa Barbara: In the Misa valley, near the mountain range that goes from Senigallia to Jesi, is find the small town of Barbara. Here the white-berry grape - Verdicchio - reigns supreme. However, in these districts there are those who have wanted to try the adventure of a 100% Merlot. One more challenge with himself, like the one he carried out in 1994 when he decided to leave his job at the bank to dedicate himself entirely to wine, with a declared goal: “to make wines that people like”. The story of the character - yes, character, because Stefano Antonucci, with his colored glasses, his eternal smile, his irrepressible joie de vivre, is a true character - is known by the fans. Like the wines from his Cantina di Santa Barbara: Verdicchi. And his 'international' red, Pathos, the result of a coupage of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. However, not satisfied with the goals achieved, Antonucci pursued an idea: a pure Merlot reminiscent of the Marche region, but unafraid to compare itself to the other 'great' Italian Merlots. From a vineyard located 260 meters above sea level, facing Northeast, with a soil rich in stones and boulders, in 2011 the first vintage of Mossone was born (named after the nickname Antonucci's friends gave him: Mossi ). But what is Mossone like? Wealth. Here is the adjective that best defines this 2018 we are writing about, a vintage that in the Verdicchio Jesino area stood out for not indifferent heat peaks and that forced the harvest to be brought forward a little, to preserve the acidity a little more. In the glass the wine has a magnificent ruby red color, almost impenetrable in its consistency. And, in its fleeting reflections of closed liveliness, it betrays both its youth and its sumptuousness. Turning it around, the eye is captivated by the double drops of 'arches' that, in succession, seem to draw the slender and dense arches of a Gothic cathedral. Then, breaking the rotation, the liquid is deposited compactly in the glass with that elegant oscillation typical of 'coherent' wines. In the glass the wine has a magnificent ruby red color, almost impenetrable in its consistency.
