Description

Lip-smackingly delicious. This one had a thickly voluptuous nose that set the tone for the rest of the wine. Ripe scents of fleshy red fruit, macerated cherries, almost wilting flower petals and some mushroomy earth wafted out of the glass at me. Very rich scents, almost hinting of liquer, but with some mineral and spice scents underneath that pulled one back to Chambolle. Such a contrast to the more serious CM 1er before it. The palate was every bit what I expected from the nose. It had lots of fleshy red fruit, all plump, sappy and voluptuous, with a nice juiciness and velvety structure that kept the wine ever so seductively delicious. With a bit of time, some lovely floral notes started weaving their way in and out of the fruit. A very forward, very sexy wine. Yet for all that, it was certainly no one-dimensional air-head, with a gentle stream of minerality, some Chinese herb and nice spice notes peppering the finish and adding a nice bit of interest. Not quite as serious as the other wines on show, but this is really in a nice sweet-spot - clearly a top-end 1er Cru and a joy to drink.
