Description

The 1995 Ermitage Le Pavillon is magnificent.The wine was more accessible than the 1996 (due to the lower acidity and more immediately accessible glycerin and fruit),with a magnificent black/purple color and layers of cassis fruit,smoky,roasted meat,and mineral characteristics that are the result of barrel fermentation and high extraction of fruit.It is huge,but not heavy,gorgeously proportioned and dazzlingly well-defined.A monster Hermitage of immense proportions,it somehow manages to keep everything in balance.This backward Pavillon will require 10-12 years of cellaring.It should age well through the first half of the next century.

Really very good Rhone, intense ruby color, heavy fruity nose, long on alcohol. Massive finish that goes on and on. Drank this the same night as the 1995 Rayas and it stood up very well to that beautiful wine albeit a completely different style of wine. Really enjoyed drinking my first bootle of this and look forward to the remaining 3 that I have. No need to hold this any longer it is fully matured.

Incredibly young, but it's impossible to miss the quality here. Intensely concentrated, powerful, tannic, fresh and lively, with a wall of fruit and a nose that combines ripe fruits, earth, smoke, thyme and mint, 3 hours of decanting was not enough. Time and air are needed for this wine to deliver the goods.
