Description

A single bottle of Hermitage from the legendary 1978 vintage.
Excellent cosmetic condition, with respectable level for age.
Colour looks excellent from holding bottle up to a bright light.

Just one recent unscored Cellartracker note from Kevin H in 2008:

"Still a reasonable garnet colour but with some fading at the rim as anticipated. Muted nose at first, a little red fruit and a bit of ash but not pronounced. Tastes a little faded though still with a decent core of red fruits. After 2 hours in the decanter - a better wine. A bit of tapanade on the nose but only a bit, more ash coming through, smoky red fruit flavours and no signs of drying out. Not as faded as I feared but a tad soft and lacking in real power and concentration - I suspect it was always a bit like this. An interesting and enjoyable old Hermitage but not a profound wine on this showing."

There are no guarantees with this age of bottle of course - but from inspection by bright light, the colour of this bottle still seems quite a vigorous red, rather than the "reasonable garnet" referred to in the tasting note above.
