Description

Perfect levels, minor damp to the label.

Cheapest bottle in UK is £115 IB – £141 Duty Paid for 75cl bottle. Not available at all in the UK in magnum format.

Recent CellarTracker reviews suggest this is an excellent aged claret, drinking at its peak. (These were highly likely to be 75cl bottles – this magnum will be 'younger' in character).

"This bottle had an upper shoulder fill and revealed signs of slight seepage upon removing the capsule. Regardless, the wine poured into the decanter with light revealing a bright ruby core. Aromatics wafted out of the decanter with no signs of oxidation. In the glass, the nose initially had some old attic mustiness, but this blew off around 30m-1hr. All the classic Bordeaux descriptors of cassis, cigar, tobacco, leather all apply here, but what stands out is a unique spiced quality. Something like a blend of nutmeg, allspice, clove, cinnamon. Hard to pinpoint. There's a touch of brett/barnyard character, but it's complimentary. After about 1hr in the glass, the red fruit in the wine is very much alive and singing with a slight glycerine sweetness that made the wine feel so much more youthful. There's some pyrazine green-ness here, though not overwhelming, and in fact characteristically old Bordeaux. The wine stayed alive the entire 3 hour duration it took to finish the last drop. An absolutely stunning showing of this wine from an uncertain bottle!"
