Description

Here we have for sale my favorite bottle of wine that i own.

An incredible bottle of Chateau Haut-Brion 1919 - an incredibly rare vintage steeped in history. The bottle has survived world wars - if bottles could tell stories...

Quite simply the oldest Bordeaux wine on record - To quote Samuel Pepys "There I drank a sort of French wine called Ho-Bryan (sic) which hath a good and most particular taste which I never before encountered....."

Good label bearing the he name of M Larrieu (owners of Ch Haut Brion between 1801-1922) - a few scuffs as you would expect and some dark overall staining - which is expect for a bottle of its age. The fill level is at it's Low shoulder. (which is incredible for a bottle that is turning 95.)

I'm jealous of whoever gets to drink this bottle - it will either be the best bottle of wine you have ever tasted - or rather disappointing. Reluctant sell - using sale to fund a house move - so needs must etc.

Selling on a 10 day auction with no reserve.

The bottle is in overall excellent condition for its age. The cap/foil is in immaculate condition with no signs of seepage. Dusting to the bottle which i don't want to remove/clean as it adds some character to the bottle.

Any questions feel free to fire them my way - if you require more pictures just let me know.

History on the wine:
The wines of château Haut-Brion offer unique aromas. Located in Pessac, this castle has seen several families, leading the field: the Pontacs, the Fumels and the Larrieus; Talleyrand was also briefly the owner. Today, the castle is owned by the Dillon family, who offers the wine the most noble and the most constant of its appellation, with a capacity of aging out-of-common… In the sixteenth century, Jean de Pontac, from a family of wines’ traders, founded the field Haut-Brion. He decided to base it around the property, he has received as a dowry, from his wife, which was located on the place called “Haut-Brion”. He built the castle, which has to be used for the vineyard. His descendants, Arnaud III and Francois-Auguste de Pontac, contributed to develop the famous wine and its export in Europe. François-Auguste de Pontac also opened a tavern called "L’Enseigne de Pontac", in London, which allowed Haut-Brion to increase its notoriety and to be recognized as one of the best wines of France.
