Chateau Lynch Bages 5eme Cru Classe, Pauillac

Description

This is a 5me Grand Cru Classé (1855 classification) from Pauillac, home of the greatest Bordeaux wines. Chateau Lynch Bages was under the direction of the legendary Jean Michel Cazes who sadly died just a year ago.

Lynch-Bages typically need at least a dozen years in the bottle and then will be at their best for 25 years or more. This is the 2009 which is the highest rated vintage of the ‘noughties’ scoring well into the nineties by everyone. Jeff Leve says “fabulous character with its layers of ripe, blackberries, black currants, lead pencil, cedar chest, and tobacco notes. Full-bodied, round, concentrated” and rates it 95.

This is from my two cases which were bought en primeur, stored in bond and transferred to my climate-controlled cellar earlier this year, VAT and duty paid. Drink it now if you will (after decanting) or maybe keep it to celebrate 100 years of “The Archers”. The sensible reserve leaves plenty of upside for the collector/investor if you continue to store it well.
