Description

One magnum of this wine, which I bought from Tanners of Shrewsbury in July 1996-I still have the invoice. Since then it has been properly stored on its side in a cool, dark cellar.

The bottle on sale is the one shown in the photographs. There are a couple of tears to the label as shown, and the gold finish on the capsule is worn in places, but the capsule is intact and I can see no evidence of leakage.

Wine Spectator 2014 notes (bottle rather than magnum): CHÂTEAU PICHON LONGUEVILLE LALANDE Pauillac 1959 Score: 98

"This has the range of the ’61, with similar dried currant, fig and blackberry fruit forming the core, but the tannins are more prominent from the start. Alder and cedar base notes carry the tar-tinged finish, leading to an echo of bitter orange, iron and charcoal as this grows steadily and authoritatively in the glass. A tad longer than the ’61. Drink now through 2025.—J.M."
