Description

You are bidding on two bottles of D'Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz 2001. The Dead Arm has built up a strong following in the UK and ages beautifully. We opened a bottle recently and it was deep purple, with the merest hint of rust at the rim. Floods of blackcurrants on the nose, and a powerful, long finish. This wine is now 11 years old and showing no signs of age n my view.

From cellar tracker:

Tasted by DonalOB on 4/8/2012 & rated 93 points: Still purple with deep ruby rim. I'm thankful to say that this was not like the recent big aged Aussie's I've tried, all about the licorice, but still had great flavours - spicy blackberries with well-tamed vanilla - and had matching acidity and tannins to impress the crowd. Great finish as well - not surprising given the density and body.
Not quite RP's scores but not bad all the same.

There are many reviews all scoring in the 92 to 94pt range. Parker gives it more, but I think he has over-egged it a bit.

From the winery:

Each batch of fruit received is gently crushed in our Demoisy open-mouthed, rubber-toothed crusher so as many of the berries as possible remain whole. After crushing, the must is transferred to open fermenters where the seeds and skins are permanently submerged beneath the free run juice.
The must receives no plunging or pumping over while fermentation occurs. Once the primary fermentation is nearly complete, traditional foot-treading takes place prior to basket-pressing. The wine is then transferred to barrel to complete its primary and secondary fermentation.
After 20 months every barrel is individually assessed for quality.
Only the best barrels are selected to be bottled as The Dead Arm Shiraz.

Both bottles have been stored in a eurocave since purchase some years ago, and the levels are well into the neck. The bottles and labels are in excellent condition, apart from two very small folds that you can see in the second picture.

If you wish to pay using Paypal, their fees of 3.8% will be added at time of invoice.

I live in Wiltshire, but work in London so you can collect from either address if you prefer to avoid Royal Mail shipping charges.

If you wish to bid from outside the UK, please contact me to confirm shipping costs before you bid. Local customs clearance is your responsibility I'm afraid.
