Paul Jaboulet has been a part of the Rhône Valley wine industry for almost two centuries, beginning with a small plot of land on the hills of Hermitage, before expanding throughout the region. Today, it encompasses more than 100 hectares (250 acres) of vineyards making wines from the northern and southern Rhône, including Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Condrieu and Cornas.

Paul Jaboulet Aine
In 1834, Antonie Jaboulet began working the hills of Hermitage, growing and cultivating the vines that would lay the framework for future generations. On his death, the estate was passed to his sons Henri and Paul, the latter eventually giving his name to wines and the company. The maison was passed through the Jaboulet family until the purchase by the Frey family in 2006.

Paul Jaboulet Ainé is one of the most famous producers of the North Rhone.
Its mythical white Hermitage, "Chevalier de Stérimberg" , and its Hermitage red "la Chapelle" , are two of the wines with which it has gained its international prestige.

Focus on Crozes Hermitage , from the property "Domaine de Thalabert". Vineyards belonging to the Jaboulet family since 1834. They consist of about 40 hectares on the left bank of the Rhone river, on a stony plain of glacial origin. Old vineyards of Syrah, yields of less than 30 hectoliters per hectare and traditional vinification with aging of 12 months in oak. A curiosity is that their barrels are located in an old gallery of Roman origin (121 BC) under the town of Châteauneuf sur Isère.

And here his Fr. Jaboulet Crozes Hermitage Thalabert 2001 , a wine with nose notes to cherry caramel, blueberries and blackberry, with some old barrel hanging around. Later, it opens with light notes of smoke and virginia tobacco. In mouth, the red fruit present, marking the passage. Grenada, gooseberries. Good acid, with good persistence. A good value classic style and a ideal introduction to Syrah.

Denomination: AOC Crozes Hermitage / Côtes du Rhône / France Varieties: 100% Syrah Graduation: 13% Alc. Price: 20-22 euros 750ml Rating: 8.5

See the web for various reviews, not the very finest year but still Very drinkable.
