Together with the Beaucastel this is one of the two most youthful looking wines in this flight. The nose is packed with smoke, plenty of fruit, game, spices, pepper and sensibly applied oak. Sweet and round fruit on the palate, with ripe though prominent tannins. There is some strong acidity destined to carry this wine into the future. Clearly a wine on the way up. This wine was decanted and poured about fifteen minutes later. This wine followed a side-by-side tasting of the 2004 and 2005. This showed exceptionally well and has aged as well or better than expected. The aromatics are complex and balanced. The wine shows stone, smoke, granite, raspberry, fire pit, dried thyme and meat notes. The color is a medium ruby that is correct for its age. The medium/full bodied palate shows outstanding balance, depth and complexity. Tannins are present and give the wine structure. This is at a nice point in its evolution. The wine retains some youthful intensity but has developed complexity from bottle age. Having tasted this wine since release and on a number of occasions since, Vieux Telegraphe has produced an outstanding wine for this vintage. This wine is drinking exceptionally well now and should continue to do so over the next 5 - 6 years. 1/5/09 Cellar Tracker.
