Description

A fine and mature colour, oxblood red at the core, and a wide, paler rim. The nose has plenty of open and overtly mature fruit, sweet and slightly high-toned, with violets, cooked cherries and hot, slightly funky, animalistic, caramelised meat. The palate is fleshy, but with firm underpinnings, plenty of meaty extract, and a lovely tangible substance to the wine. There's a good seam of ripe and smoky tannins, rather firm acidity although this sits quite well within the overall substance of the wine. A nice wine, broad and spicy, with plenty of forward character and a little suppleness, and a little length too. Good wine. From a 2000 Southern Rhône tasting. 17/20 (September 2009) The Wine Doctor

Tasted by spaniel on 6/27/2011 & rated 93 points: Right on peak. Drinking beautifully now, but fell over after a few hours. Intoxicating nose with plenty of secondary characters coming through - sour cherry, leather, soy sauce and funk. Gutsy full-bodied palate that screams out to be drank with red meat. Very satisfying.
Tasted by winemaker on 6/5/2011 & rated 92 points: Transparent medium red. Smells of autumn leaves. Fairly complex with a lot of secondary notes. Muted red fruits, anise, sous bois, garrigue. Kind of angular, but pretty nice.
Tasted by d'Artagnan on 2/13/2009 & rated 93 points: An explosive wine, concentrated and fresh, long, rich and profound. It reminds me of the famous Reine des Bois du Domaine la Mordorée. Wow, spectacular! 93+ points.
