Description

98/100 Robert Parker

Floral, lemon, apple and cream with dried pineapple and apricot. Full-bodied, but very focused and refined. It starts slowly and then, wham! It goes on and on. Spicy, dried fruits and spices. Full-bodied, medium-sweet. So long and exciting. Incredible. It is very close to 2001. We will see.
Score: 95-100 James Suckling, WineSpectator.com, March 2006

Yield of 12 hl/ha – almost record high levels! Quite deep gold. Wonderfully deep nose – never smelt anything as intense and glorious as this! Extraordinary!!! Deep yet lively. Exciting depth of pear juice and zest – tangerine peel too. Great astringency. 2001 was more concentrated. This is more transparent. Lovely dancing stuff, but already in the super-nuanced Yquem idiom. Lighter than some vintages but with great lacy complexity. Wonderful green, lively notes and some real explosiveness – 13.5 per cent. Energy drink! Coiled like a taut spring. Drink 2015-50
Score: 20/20 Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, April 2006

Tasted by geppetto on 9/24/2012 & rated 98 points: I shouldn't have done it. I knew I shouldn't have done it and I did it anyway. Ughh! I freaked out after seeing the last few reviews and I flinched and opened this way too early... This wine is developing as it should. The nose morphed into an almost unworldly symphony of fine tropical fruits melding together like only the masters at d'Yquem seem to be able to consistently conjure from their works. Rich but pure mouth feel with an amazingly long finish. There is no doubt that this is developing well and I see tremendous upside from here. I won't open another bottle for at least 10 years. It is good now, but nowhere near where it will be if given time...

Tasted by THaas on 11/20/2010 & rated 98 points: Half bottle. Nose was intense Sauternes; botrytis funk over flowers and apricots, rich, deep, and powerful. Amazing intensity in the mouth, honeyed apricot and butterscotch. An almost-everlasting finish, it lingered in my mouth for easily 5 minutes.

Tasted by beezer6 on 7/27/2010 & rated 97 points: Still the reigning king of dessert wines on the planet. Gorgeous aromas of freshly baked brioche, sugar cookies, white flowers, light spice and a touch of petrol. Lovely palate displaying fresh peach, light baking spice, lots of gorgeous floral elements and more of that cool fresh gas essence. Very elegant. Yellow apples and honey on the back end with a light straw play. Finish is astounding. It goes on and on and on. I don't want to drink anything for ten minutes after each sip of the wine.
Lovely weight with typical Y'quem viscocity. This is a legend in the making. Stunning and profound. Wow! You can't help but smile after sipping this gorgeous elixir.
