Description

In nearly a quarter of a century of professional tasting experience,1999 is the finest Cote Rotie I have seen. For pure opulence, concentration and extraordinary levels of glycerin and extract, the 1999 Cote Roties are exceptional. They are easily the finest vintage for this region, since 1978.Oddly 1999 offered abundant yields and spectacular quality.
Edmund's son David has taken over the winemaking at the Duclaux estate, whose vineyards are all located in the southern half of the appellation. The style has changed, with more barrels, plus some new oak being utilized. These are supple Cote Roties, with sweet and forward personalities.David is pushing this estate into a higher-quality echelon,as evidenced by the 1999,the finest Duclaux Cote Rotie I have tasted.
The exceptional 1999 Cote Rotie is a hedonistic fruit bomb, possessing a dark ruby color,a creamy texture and a sweet, evolved perfume of black fruits, mixed with smoke, dried herbs, bacon fat and spice.Rich, round and seductive,it will drink well for 12+ years.
(90 Points).
