Description

A ***** vintage. Still opaque, intense, rich 'legs', fragrant, packed with fruit, very sweet, glorious flavour and potential 2010-2030 Michael Broadbent
96/100 Robert Parker 95/100 Stephen Tanzer

Excellent Cellartracker notes:

4/26/2013 - NICKBURWOOD LIKES THIS WINE:94 Points
Deliberate infanticide to assess when to start drinking for real.
Intense concentration of bramble and desert fruits in sweet inky deep red/black liquid form. Smooth and viscous with a hint of alcohol heat.
Drinkable but almost OTT on first evening although the crude edges evened out by the second. I suspect would hold up fine in a decanter for a good week.

2/10/2013 - EJKIII WROTE:94 Points
Nursing this one along over several days with my bride. Incredible mix of power and subtlety, richness and approachability. Still precocious, but comfortable and relaxed. Perfect hue and nose. Delicious now after 13 years, but looks to have many, many years of runway.

1/27/2013 - KANJIMOTI WROTE:94 Points
I could describe the 2000 Fonseca with every synonym for prodigious and powerful I can think of but until you've actually tasted it, you have no idea how concentrated and complex a wine it is. When this hit my palate the image of a soup spoon came to mind. Pouring a second taste I watched this leave the bottle and was literally reminded of the last time I put oil in my engine. Sure that makes for a very sweet wine that borders on syrup, but we don't open a bottle of Port looking for light-bodied subtlety.
To the eye this is a beautiful ruby red and so so cloudy with sediment. On the nose the Fonseca reminds me of an extremely ripe Pauillac with aromas of pencil shavings, ripe blueberries picked and left to rot in the summer sun, musk, and quite a few intangibles I've never run across. This half bottle has been open 45 minutes and is starting to show a prominent aroma of soil, raisins, rhubarb, and balsamic reduction. Undoubtedly the most colossal wine I have ever tasted; an experience in itself. Drink by Independence Day, 2035.
