Description

Giuliano Corino’s Barolo Classico is a confident, contemporary take on one of Italy’s greatest wines, crafted by a family deeply rooted in the hills of La Morra. Having started life as sharecroppers in the 1950s, the Corino family transitioned, like many other during the 'Barolo Boys' era to estate bottling under Giuliano’s leadership in the 1980s. Along with his modernising contemporaries (Roberto Voerzio, Elio Altare, et al), Giuliano adopted rotary fermenters and French oak barrels, refining a style characterised by polished tannins, vibrant fruit, and structural harmony.

This Barolo, from the excellent 2021 vintage, draws on two prized vineyard sites in La Morra: Giachini and Annunziata. Both sit at around 250 metres above sea level, their calcareous clay soils and opposing exposures (east and west) bringing together power and finesse. Small berries and perfect phenolic ripeness in 2021 led to wines with structure and ageing potential.

Fermentation occurs in rotary tanks, with a gentle five- to seven-day maceration, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine then matures for two years in used French oak barriques before being blended and held in tank for six months. After a year in bottle, it emerges with lifted red berry and floral aromas, silky tannins, and a long, poised finish—classic Barolo with the signature elegance of La Morra.
