About the wine:
Henri Clerc (Henri Clerc & Fils) was a respected Puligny-Montrachet grower-producer noted for classical, barrel-fermented Chardonnay with mineral drive and fine oak integration.
The domaine was broken later broken up between members of the Clerc family and part of it was sold to Vincent Girardin.
Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet lies adjacent to Bâtard on deep, chalk-limestone soils that give powerful, silky grands crus with floral lift and a long, saline finish.
The 1988 white Burgundy vintage is prized for brisk acidity, concentration and age-worthy structure; well-stored bottles can show preserved citrus, ripe pear, honeyed nuts, brioche and chalky tension.
