Description

This auction is for 3 half bottles (375ml). 

"The 2001 vintage exceeded all our expectations, with comfortable quantity and satisfactory levels of maturity for all grape varieties. Great vintage for Late Harvest wines. 

These wines made from overripe grapes are picked well after the classic vintage and in the greatest years only. The action of noble rot (botrytis cinerea) gives them an almost unlimited ability to age. They are part of the elite of the greatest wines in France." 

The Vintage Chart on the Hugel website has 2001 VT Gewurztraminer as "outstanding" (http://blog.hugel.com/en/2011/12/hugel_vintage_chart_from_2007.html).

Winespectator gave this 93 points but the most recent tasting note is: 

"This Late Harvest wine with a decade under its belt has a deepening golden colour. The nose is fabulous: exotic as an essential oil, it is sensual and smoky, with spices and very ripe, tropical fruit notes. On the palate it has quite a viscous texture but is not heavy. The alcohol is very moderate at only 12% ABV, and whilst the ripeness and sweetness of mango and juicy Mandarin orange is there, that pithy, bracing acidity is like a steel rod running through the core of the wine. Not for the heaviest desserts, but glorious stuff that is fairly immortal. This was £36.00 at The Wine Society but is not currently showing on their web site."
