Description

Occasionally we're offered a parcel of wine we can't refuse. The Kay Brothers Amery 2005 Hillside Shiraz is one such example.

From a vineyard initially planted in 1892, this wine is classic, powerful Australian Shiraz. It's traditionally made (open fermentation and basket pressing) and then aged for 28 months in a combination of American and Eastern European oak casks. The results are stunning and, whilst very approachable now, will probably age for as long as you wish.


_The 2005 Shiraz 'Hillside' was aged for 28 months in mostly American oak. Deep purple in color, it has an enticing, expressive bouquet of smoke, bacon, game, and blueberry. Opulent on the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered, spicy, ripe, and mouth-filling. The tannins are well-concealed but should permit evolution in the cellar. 93 points.
