There are 12 barrels of the spectacularly concentrated 1998 Hermitage Le Greal.The only time a Sorrel Hermitage did the same thing to me was when I tasted the prodigeous 1978 and 1979.The opaque black/purple-colored 1998 achieved 13.7% natural alcohol.If it evolves in the barrel the way it should,it will be a candidate for a near perfect score.Sensationally extracted and seamless in the mouth,this wine possesses fabulous concentration,a multidimensional,layered personality,phenomenal purity,and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute.The tannin is sweet and the wine flamboyant,exotic,yet neither heavy or out of balance.There are copious quantities of blackberry jam,licorice,smoke,prunes,and truffles in this staggeringly great young Hermitage.It must be tasted to be believed.Anticipated maturity:2005-2030.
