Three bottles of Australian Shiraz:-

1.St Hallett's Old Block Shiraz 1992 (Barossa Valley).
2.Charles Melton Barossa Valley Shiraz 1991.
3.Penfold's Ralph's Shiraz 1990 (Coonawara).

The St Hallett's Old Block Shiraz 1992 is made from 80 to 100 year old "shy-bearing deep rooted" vines.The long ripening period of the 1992 vintage has again provided the inherent,rich fruit and palate depth,while the soft and lingering flavours result from gentle handling of the fruit from the vine,through ferment and maturation in American oak barrels.

The 1991 Charles Melton Barossa Valley Shiraz shows the classical style of this region's most prized grape.Mild vintage conditions in 1991 gave off fruit at perfect ripeness levels and flavour development.The result is a rich,dark Shiraz,showing a blend of spice and berries on the nose and a full weighty palate,rounded out and given complexity by 15 months maturation in American oak hogsheads.It will handsomely repay cellaring for a decade or more.

Ralph's Shiraz 1990.(A Penfold's celebratory tribute to Ralph Steadman,the cartoonist)
Ralph Steadman is mature and full-bodied,with a cutting edge,and does not travel well,unlike Ralph's Shiraz 1990,an exemplary Coonawarra Shiraz,matured in new American oak for 18 months and named in Ralph's honour.It is a richly flavoured wine with sweet,mulberry fruit nuances,velvety tannins and a spicy aftertaste.
