One of the highlights among the more recent releases, the 2010 Opus One is flat-out gorgeous. Dark cherries, plums, graphite, cassis and pencil shavings are all woven together in a fabric of notable class and elegance. The 2010 stands out for its exceptional minerality, tension and pure power. Readers will have to be patient. This is a picture perfect rendering of this great Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon vintage.

A glorious perfume of sweet charcoal, truffle, black currants and spice box soars from the glass of the saturated purple-colored 2010 Opus One. The gorgeous aromatics are followed by a beautifully knit, full-bodied red blend (84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5.5% Merlot, 5.5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec) displaying lots of spicy black currant fruit, medium to full body, velvety tannins, and not a hard edge to be found. Really quite good, in a full-blooded California fashion. Strong black fruit nose with vanilla hints. Sweet fruit and very round with soft tannins. Pretty good combo with Sunday burgers.

TWIGS Presents Viva Espana (Casa del Chang): Cork. 14%a/v. Cab Sauv 84%, Cab Fr 5.5%, Merlot 5.5%, PV 4%, Malbec 1%. 100% French oak treatment. Deep purple colour. What an expressive nose. Cassis, cedar, chocolate, vanilla, violets. There's plenty of oak on the medium-full palate, but it blends harmoniously with dark, silky textured fruits. The tannins are round and velvety, giving really good length. So well balanced. Delicious now, with great ageing potential.

Decanted for about 3 hours and consumed over 1. The nose initially was very fruity but it mellowed out after decanting. Very smooth, well integrated tannins, balanced with the fruit. Consumed with food and in retrospect should have just enjoyed this wine by itself as its delicious.

Had with my gourmet cheeseburgers to celebrate My beautiful wife Kelly's 40th birthday! This is her favorite wine and the first of this vintage we have had. Decanted for one hour and enjoyed over the next 2. Silky smooth tannins with dark fruit, vanilla, light smoke and light chocolate undertones. Glad we have 5 more bottles to look forward to!
